Our second grade students completed a project based learning opportunity for their economics unit. In this unit the children learned about how an economy works, needs vs. wants, goods & services, natural, human, and capital resources, earning and spending money, making a business plan, and much more! The children became entrepreneurs and started a business of their choice. Throughout this project the children utilized Portrait of a Graduate skills such as communication, collaboration, goal setting, critical thinking, resiliency, and global citizenship. At the end of this unit we had a Market Day where the students became true entrepreneurs and sold their goods/services to parents and staff members in the building. We had a overflowing amount of parent support throughout this project and an amazing turnout on Market Day. Not only were the students thrilled with their successes, but parents were also amazed at the vocabulary that students were using at home and on Market Day.
